March is Brain Injury Awareness Month.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1.7 million traumatic brain injuries (TBI) occur yearly, and TBI contributes to one-third of all injury-related deaths in the United States. However, not all brain injuries are related to trauma. Stroke or brain tumors, for example, can also cause brain injuries.

In this video, Cara Camiolo-Reddy, MD, medical director of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute, discusses the rehabilitation process at the Center for Brain Injury for patients with both traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries.
