The Pittsburgh Poison Center provides poison information 24 hours a day. Staffed by specialists who have extensive training in clinical toxicology, the center responds to more than 100,000 requests for poison information from the general public and medical professionals each year. Inquiries come from 44 Pennsylvania counties. There is no fee to the public for this service.
In addition to education for the public, the Pittsburgh Poison Center provides training and seminars for health care professionals. The center also has a network of hospital treatment centers throughout Pennsylvania providing medical consultation for cases of poison exposure.
