The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that more than 45 million Americans have a mental illness in any given year, with only about half seeking treatment.

These illness can drastically alter a patient’s life, as well as the lives of their loved ones. Mental illness can make it difficult to interact with others and function at work or school. Five key types of mental illness include:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mood Disorders (like depression and bipolar disorder)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Dementia
  • Eating Disorders (like anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder)
