According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1.7 million traumatic brain injuries (TBI) occur yearly, and TBI contributes to one-third of all injury-related deaths in the United States.

However, not all brain injuries are related to trauma. Stroke or brain tumors, for example, can also cause brain injuries.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. In this video, Gary Galang, MD discusses the rehabilitation process at the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute’s Center for Brain Injury Rehabilitation,  for patients with both traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries.
