What Are Acai Berries?
Acai berries look like grapes and are packed with powerful antioxidants — more antioxidants, in fact, than the popular strawberries and blueberries you’ll find in your local grocery store. They’re also high in fiber and calcium. Native to South American rain forests, acai berries are harvested from acai palm trees.
Fresh acai berries are rarely available in the United States. Instead, fans of acai use frozen purees or powders of the fruit.
What Is an Acai Bowl?
Acai bowls are thick, creamy concoctions with a consistency similar to a smoothie. Pureed acai acts as a base and is topped with fruit, granola, nuts — really any ingredient or texture you prefer. Acai bowls make for a great breakfast or snack.
Cooking Time: 10 Minutes
Recipe Serves: 1
- One sleeve of organic acai puree
- Half banana
- Half cup frozen strawberries
- Combine banana, strawberries and acai sleeve in blender. Puree until smooth.
- Pour into bowl.
- Top as desired. Suggestions include coconut flakes, granola, chia seeds, banana, and raspberries.
