UPMC AnywhereCare Comes to Your Local Grocery Store

Seeing a UPMC clinician can be as simple as strolling the cereal aisle.

UPMC and Giant Eagle are partnering to offer UPMC AnywhereCare kiosks in the pharmacy section of several Giant Eagle stores. These kiosks allow people to connect with UPMC health care professionals within moments.

With UPMC AnywhereCare kiosks, you can receive care for minor illnesses and use devices such as blood pressure cuffs, and otoscopes to assist in your virtual visit. Giant Eagle pharmacy technicians and pharmacists will be on-site to help patients using the UPMC AnywhereCare kiosks.

Where Can I Find UPMC AnywhereCare Kiosks?

You can find the new kiosks at the following Giant Eagle stores next to the pharmacy:

  • The Waterworks Shopping Plaza at 910 Freeport Road
  • The Waterfront store in Homestead
  • The Monroeville store at 4010 Monroeville Blvd.

*Note that all store kiosks are located in the private consultation rooms next to the pharmacy

How Do the Kiosks Work?

Patients 18 or older, as well as those ages 3 to 17 accompanied by a parent or guardian, can talk face-to-face with a health care professional via the kiosk video camera to assess a variety of non-emergent symptoms. Health care professionals will assess the symptoms, such as a sore throat or back pain, and recommend a treatment plan. Treatment plans may include a prescription or an in-person office visit.

Clinicians can be contacted via the kiosks during regular pharmacy hours at participating Giant Eagle stores.

The service is available where the consumer is already located, without the hassles of scheduling another stop at the doctor’s office or an urgent care center. Clinicians can be contacted via the kiosks during regular pharmacy hours in participating Giant Eagle stores.

UPMC AnywhereCare Virtual Urgent Care visits are available for all patients.  UPMC Health Plan members can perform these visits as a covered benefit. Prescriptions, if needed, are paid separately by the patient, and are sent electronically to the patient’s chosen pharmacy. This can be at the adjacent Giant Eagle pharmacy in the store, but does not have to be.

“As the name says, we want our world-renowned UPMC care to be available to our patients anywhere, including the grocery store where they might already be looking for over-the-counter remedies or filling their prescriptions,” said Natasa Sokolovich, executive director of Telehealth for UPMC.

UPMC AnywhereCare offers patients with non-emergency symptoms quick online access to high-quality care—anytime, anywhere.

Patients use video to connect face-to-face with online UPMC health care providers. There, you can receive a diagnosis and a treatment plan if necessary.
