Customized Care, Close to Home
The team cares for patients of all ages and treats numerous conditions, from arthritis and tendinitis to injuries and symptoms related to other medical conditions, including COVID-19.
“We try to be a one-stop shop for our patients,” says Kara McGarvey, DPT, AT, new director of the Moon Township facility. “Some patients come for therapy five days a week. For example, patients recovering from a stroke may need both speech and balance therapy, so those appointments become more manageable when they are all located in one place.”
The Rehabilitation Institute outpatient rehabilitation location in Moon Township offers a wide range of services, including:
- Balance therapy.
- Hand therapy.
- Lymphedema management.
- Neurorehabilitation.
- Occupational therapy.
- Physical therapy.
- Speech therapy.
- Sports rehab programs.
- Women’s health rehab programs.
“Our location makes care more accessible to patients,” says McGarvey. “We’re close to a lot of the local communities, so people don’t have to travel all the way into the city for an appointment.”

The facility’s two orthopaedic physical therapists are also certified athletic trainers. Conveniently located near Robert Morris University and several high schools, the facility is a local resource for young athletes with sports-related injuries.
Dedicated to Patients
While the main goal of UPMC Rehabilitation Institute outpatient care is to help patients recover, regain function, and achieve their goals through therapy, the Moon Township facility is committed to helping you learn and understand more about your body. Experts often host educational events where community members can learn about topics such as preventing falls, spine health, and more.
UPMC also sponsors and participates in local events. We provide bike helmet fittings and warm-up exercises at Tour the Montour bike ride fundraiser and give out candy at the Moon Halloween Spooktacular Trunk or Treat.
“Our team is so compassionate and driven, and I really love how involved we are in the community,” says McGarvey.
UPMC Rehabilitation Institute is located at 1600 Coraopolis Heights Road in Coraopolis. With more than 60 outpatient locations throughout western Pennsylvania that offer convenient office hours, it’s easy to find one that’s close to home or work.
