The people we treat have access to:

  • Several key clinical programs that offer expert care for many respiratory issues. These include asthma, sleep disorders, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cystic fibrosis.

3. The UPMC Lung Transplant Program has performed more than 2,350 lung and heart-lung transplants.

We are one of only a few lung transplant centers in the United States that have achieved this volume while maintaining excellent outcomes.

By working closely as a team with the UPMC Comprehensive Lung Center, we can:

  • Provide exceptional care to people with lung disease.
  • Manage the most complex cases and offer transplants to everyone who will benefit, including those that other transplant centers deem high-risk or unfit for transplant.
  • Consider people older than 70 for a lung transplant. Our experts have experience with lung transplants in older adults. We evaluate each person referred to our program, no matter their age.

4. The UPMC Comprehensive Lung Center and the UPMC Lung Transplant Program take a collaborative approach to lung care.

At UPMC, we provide the full scope of lung disease management and treatment.

We offer diagnosis and disease management through the Comprehensive Lung Center. We provide expert transplant care at the Lung Transplant Program. Our teams even perform innovative research and education.

5. Seeking care early for your lung disease is key.

It’s important to seek care early in your lung disease progression. Early referral allows our experts to become familiar with you and understand your specific needs before considering a transplant.

For people who do require a transplant, early referral helps us to address barriers, provide education about the transplant process, and increase your chances of receiving a successful lung transplant.
