Defining a Concussion
Nearly 9 in 10 Americans cannot correctly define a concussion.
A concussion is an injury caused by direct or indirect forces that cause neurochemical and cellular changes in the brain.
Concussion Symptom Recognition
Percentage of Americans that can recognize the following symptoms:
- Headache 58%
- Dizziness 58%
- Cognitive Difficulty 55%
- Nausea 42%
- Fatigue 34%
- Changes in Mood 13%
79% incorrectly believe that there is no real way to cure a concussion.
This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Poll on behalf of UPMC between April 16-23, 2015 among 2,012 U.S. adults age 18 or older, 948 of whom are parents.
