The car spun, struck a pole, and split in half on impact. UPMC patient Daren was knocked unconscious.

Daren enjoyed restoring and racing vintage cars, but after a devastating 2014 car accident left him with a concussion, he was sidelined from the hobbies he loved.

Physicians at UPMC oversaw Daren through an active concussion treatment program, where he recovered from his injuries and was eventually able to resume the activities he loved — including getting behind the wheel.

“I’m always going 24/7, and I had to slow down. So I needed to basically stop work for a couple of weeks, regroup, learn how to relax and keep my mind focused on being healthy, not just getting back and doing everything I wanted to do,” he said.
