Good health starts with a healthy gut. Include fermented foods like kefir, yogurt, kimchi, miso, and sauerkraut. These foods contain probiotics, which are essential for balancing the levels of microorganisms in the intestines, reducing the level of harmful bacteria, and boosting the immune system. Try this easy berry smoothie recipe from Gary Roberts of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Berry Smoothie (serves 1)

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ½ cup kefir
  • ½ cup frozen berries
  • ½ banana
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp. ground flax seeds

Blend and enjoy
