High-Performance Coconut Water Smoothie Recipes

Coconut water is nature’s sports drink and is a great source of natural electrolytes, especially potassium. Try blending it in to a smoothie for an extra nutritional punch! Here are several smoothie recipes, courtesy of Gary Roberts of UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Post Workout Banana Chocolate Smoothie

Ingredients (serves one)

  • ½ cup coconut water
  • ½ cup natural spring water
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • ½ banana
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds

Tropical Green Shake

Ingredients (serves one)

  • ½ cup coconut water
  • ½ cup natural spring water
  • ½ cup frozen pineapple
  • ½ banana
  • 1 soaked pitted date
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp. hemp seeds
  • 2 large handfuls of greens (spinach, kale. Field greens)
  • 1 scoop vanilla or natural vegan protein powder

 

Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie

Ingredients (serves one)

  • ½ cup coconut water
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp. ground turmeric
  • ½ inch piece ginger root
  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • *Option to add vegan protein powder
